As we get ready to close out 2011 and bring in the next great year, we leave you with this the final edition in volume 30 of the Adventure Island News.

 The Adventure Island NewsDecember/2011

From The Executive Tower
We hope this edition of the Adventure Island News finds you all eagerly looking forward to the Christmas Holidays and some relaxing time away from school!

Fo the first time, the Connett family has decided on "Heat for Christmas" instead of snow and ice so we are spending the big day (and a couple more) in Singapore!   By New Years we will be in Britain and heading for shopping at Sports Direct (an unbelievable multitude of stores selling every conceivable kind of sports wear along with a selection of of light equipment).  Of course we wouldn't miss the start of school on January 9 so we'll be back refreshed and ready (sometimes we really find ourselves believing this!!).

This being the holiday issue of the Adventure Island News, we are reprinting a favourite brain puzzle from the past - "Who is the Engineer"    Try and figure it out - the first person to provide an email with the correct answer will receive a $20 voucher to spend in the tuck shop at camp this summer!

And speaking of camp, registrations have been pouring in for our Great Summer of 2012 and hopefully yours is already here or on it's way to us - remember, many of our programs fill very early and we want you to get your first choice of programs and session dates.  Make sure you don't miss a single moment of the fantastic season to come!   (Remind your grandparents, too, that a stay at camp makes a wonderful gift for you!!).

Have a great holiday!

'Til next time.........be kind to each other!

Baby Camper

As many of you may already know, Justin and I have begun the exciting adventure of parenthood. Isla Sienna Gerson was born on November 10th 2011 weighing in at 7lb 1oz. It is hard to believe that was over a month ago. Time flies, yet it feels like Isla has been part of our lives for much longer. It has been wonderful getting to know her. It is amazing how her funny sounds and facial expressions can make us completely forget about the sleepless nights! One of the most important things we have learned about Isla so far is that she loves to bounce - Justin and I have spent countless hours with Isla snuggled against us in a baby carrier, bouncing on an exercise ball. It looks like the trampolines at camp will be put to good use in the years to come!   I have no doubt that the following months will be filled with lots of excitement as Isla learns to do more and more, and we can't wait for Isla to meet the camp family on Adventure Island this summer.

Advantages of A Longer Camp Stay

At Canadian Adventure Camp, we like to keep up-to-date with summer camp discourse - it keeps us sharp! A recent article in Camping Magazine about the advantages of a full-season camp stay got us talking. We have campers who make C.A.C. their home for the full 8 weeks every summer; however, this is not as common as it once was. Interestingly, the Camping Magazine article highlighted the increasingly positive feedback from prospective camp families regarding extended camp stays for their children after developing an understanding of the advantages a longer camp stay can have.   Read the full story here...

Parent & Camper Surveys
We would like to thank all of you who took the time to complete this years Parent and Camper Surveys.  Your feedback will prove to be very helpful in the coming months as we prepare for our 2012 summer camp season.  If you have not yet had a chance to complete your survey they are still open online.

 CAMPER SURVEY

Who is the Engineer?
The following puzzle is a test of your reasoning power!   There is no "catch" in it but every fact is important and must be considered to answer the question: "Who is the Engineer?"

On a train, Smith, Robinson and Jones are the fireman, the brakeman and the engineer, but NOT respectively.  Also aboard the train are three businessmen who have the same names: a Mr. Smith, a Mr. Robinson and a Mr. Jones.

Facts

1. Mr. Robinson lives in Temagami.

2. The brakeman lives exactly halfway between Toronto and Temagami.

3. Mr. Jones earns exactly $40,000 per year.

4. The brakeman's nearest neighbour, one of the passengers, earns exactly
three times as much as the brakeman.

5. Smith beats the fireman at snooker.

6. The passenger whose name is the same as the brakeman's lives in
    Toronto.

Time yourself and see how long it takes you to find the answer!

Remember - the first correct answer sent by email to our office will be awarded a $20 voucher to spend in our tuck shop this summer at camp!
